Although we weren't close, I find myself pretty upset.

Well I know you loved your Mom.
But there are many daughters who though are not close, love their Moms. The neice of my 2nd wife was very close to Rosie than she was with her Mom. It is just that you and your Mom probably had great differences of opinions and
maybe clashed at times. It happens but it does not mean there was no love. I am sure you went to see her when or if she was in the hospital.

You loved ur Mom and I am sure you wanted to be closer but it had to be on Mom's side as well to want to be closer to her daughter. Sadly it was what it was. As long as you loved Mom, Jesus knows it and if
you tried to get closer to Mom, well
    Jesus knows that.

I would like to think there were close times, maybe when both you and Mom were younger? If so, then hang on to those memories.
