Lost my husband in August

I lost my husband of 7 years in August. I have tried therapy and that does not seem to help or maybe it is the person I am seeing, I am not sure. I have a 4 year old daughter and she really is what is keeping me going right now. If it wasn't for her I am not sure I would get out of bed. Our marriage was on the rocks during the last year because of his ex-husband trying to take custody of his other two older children. This caused me to be put in the middle between him and his ex for communication and everything. I have a good network of friends and family but my friends don't really know how to deal with what I am going through. I am 36 years old. I feel like I am starting all over again in the world but this time with a 4 year old. Thanksgiving and Christmas was not the same this year. The one thing I can't get out of my mind is why it had to happen if there was something I could have done to stop it or help him. I will never know for sure if he did it on accident or on purpose as the police and ME can't determine one way or another and that bothers me too. So I am just looking for someone that might have had something similar happen to talk to that is also gay and lost their husband in a similar manner. I want 2019 to start a little better so I am reaching out to see if there is anyone out there that had something happen. This was something I was never expecting.

    Happy Holidays!

    Thanks for reading,
    D

Sorry about the loss of your husband. I am no expert, but if the therapy is not working for you, then perhaps another therapist is in order.

Dustin, thank you for reaching out and sharing your story. I'm sorry for your loss and all the questions left in its wake. It can be hard to find those who understand so I'm glad you are visiting us...I hope you can find some comfort here.

I too have gone through the exact same thing. No children or ex involved however. I too do not know how he died. It looks like suicide but possibly accidental. His family disowned me and won't indulge me with any information. If you would like to talk further with a kind and caring individual, please reach out. I'm in need of compassion also. And no matter what people say, it doesn't get any easier as far as I'm concerned. My h love to you and you lost loved one. Jason

    Jason,
I am sorry to hear about your loss. I am saddened that his family disowned you. I was lucky that my husband's family didn't. They actually help me with our daughter and keep her every day while I am at work. I understand what you are going through so feel free to reach out to me if you want to chat. It has gotten a little easier for me but I think it is from my daughter and the circle of friends I have.
