I lost my mother 48 hours ago and am having a hard time. Any suggestions?
Hi Lynne, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's such a very big and very new loss, it's hard to know what to say. I will tell you this. Don't let anyone undermine the importance of the loss of a parent. Regardless of their age, your age, or for how long they were sick (or not), the loss of a parent effects us on a very deep level and we have to allow ourselves the time we need to mourn what it means now that they're no longer here. It's going to take longer than you think. Just when the people around you will be expecting you to be doing better, just about the time people stop asking, how are you? I find most grievers are starting to feel the true gravity of loss...the fog lifts, the numbness wears off, and we really start to feel the pain of loss. It doesn't mean you're doing this wrong or that you're doing worse. Grief is shape shifting and is different every minute of every day. Be patient with the process, with yourself, and for anyone who may not understand. And know that you'll always find people who understand here. I'm glad you've joined us and hope we can be a help. We wish you all the best~
Sorry to hear about your mother. I can’t add much more to what Griefic said. I hope you find the site helpful.
