I'm very familiar with the marine park area. I lived in the midwood section of Brooklyn - around East 12th St between Ave N & O. I went to PS 199, PS 238 and then Madison HS. I lived in Brooklyn until I was 29 years old and then moved to Florida for 20+ years and then moved to Nashville, TN where I currently live. I will probably return to Florida in the near future.

I know your area very well. I used to always go shopping along Kings Hwy. I haven't been back to Bklyn in decades. I graduated James Madison HS much earlier than you - 1969. In fact, I went to school with Senator Chuck Schumer if you know who he is. I sat next to him in Honors English and French classes.
In the summer my friends and I would always go to Brighton Beach - bay 2 or sometimes Manhattan Beach. I'm sure I wouldn't recognize the area now.....

  14. It has changed a lot, but Madison H.S is still there, my youngest son is actually a junior there now, and I do still like Manhattan beach the area there is beautiful. Kings Highway is a very busy area, many many stores have opened up and no you probably wouldn't recognize Brooklyn anymore, I sometimes don't recognize it myself, it's funny that so many times I have just wanted to up and leave, I still do but I probably never will, my husband and I had grown up together and married and have still lived on this same block, I couldn't think of being anywhere else.

I can certainly understand your not wanting to move. I think that's wonderful that you and your husband grew up together, married and lived on the same block. My late uncle used to live in Manhattan Beach and it is a beautiful area. I still have a friend who lives in Brooklyn near Bedford Avenue and Avenue R.
I guess Madison HS will always be there. I also used to go to Brighton Beach but I'm sure that area has also changed ... nothing ever stays the same.

I live in Columbia Heights. Lost my brother, Nick, to a sudden cardiac arrest. He was the best man I have ever known and not because he was my brother. He made me laugh every single time I saw him. He was the big brother every little girl wishes she had. I thought we would have years and years to grow old and give each other grief. I miss him every day.
