Suddenly thought of an old friend only to find out he died 2 weeks ago

I had a really good friend in high school that I haven’t thought of in 30 years and all of a sudden I thought of him. I’ve never googled any of my friends before but for some reason, I googled him that morning. I was shocked to find out he died only 2 weeks ago. I wished that I looked him up sooner. The last memory I have with him was after graduation and we talked about looking each other up in 20 years. Our paths took us to different trajectories. I learned from his FB account that he was single, had 2 children but never got married. I got married and took up my husband’s last name and have no FB account with my old name. It’s been 30 years and all the emotions came floodingback as if it was yesterday.

It’s been a few months now but I’m still feeling the loss and confusion as to why after so many years, I suddenly thought of him only to find out he died. I’m so gutted…anyone have similar experience? Thanks
