My 38-year-old son passed away suddenly on April 20th. There's no words to describe how I've felt ever since. I realized I was barely functional even though I go to work every day. I force myself to go through the motions and never cried so much in my entire life. I'm so tired all the time and finally decided to find a professional who understands. My counselor gets me because she has experienced a personal loss herself. The first thing she did was recommend a book about grief that's not a bunch of platitudes or crap about how to overcome or get better. I just wanted to pass it on for anyone who reads and can't find a book about grief that speaks to you. It's called "It's Ok that You're Not Ok" by Megan Devine. It's difficult to concentrate but I've gotten through the first chapter so far.

I'm so sorry on the passing of your son who was only 38 years old. I do not have children but can imagine how devastating it is to lose your child. Thank you for posting the book about grief and I will look into it. I hope reading this book helps you even though I know how difficult it is to concentrate. Wishing you well.

My condolences. Thanks for sharing both some about your loss, as well as what is helping you in your grief. Will look into that book.

I am so very sorry. I cannot express how important it is to find a counselor that you can connect with, and can easily talk with. The first counselor I spoke to didn't work for me. And I'm now glad it worked out that way, or I would not have found the person I am working with now, that has been my rock through my experience.
